CTE THEATRE TECH CLASSES

Costume Design & Construction

This repeatable class examines the history of costuming and trains students in the basics of cutting, draping, stitching, and crafts.  In addition to completing an Individual Project, students learn to design and construct costumes for extra-curricular productions.

 

CTE, OcEd, & Elective credit available.  Open to all students, grades 9-12.

Theatre Tech Foundations

This practical class introduces students to the world of theatre technology and design. Students learn the basic tools, materials, and methods required to design and build scenery, lighting, props, and sound for play production.  Taught in partnership with guest artists who are working theatre technicians, students will recieve safety training and learn the basics to build and manage lighting, sound, and scenic equipment for actual productions. Completing an Individual Project is also required for this course.

 

Technicians looking to become PAID student employess are required to enroll in this class.  Afterschool/evening tech crew service is an essential part of the department and is encouraged for advancement in the program.

Advanced Theatre Tech

This repeatable class builds on the skills learned in Foundations and places students in a leadership role.  In addition to gaining deeper knowlege and experience in a specific tech area of interest, students in Advanced Tech have the opportunity to train and mentor beginning students as well as serve as tech leads on productions. Students will complete another Individual Project and are encouraged to submit it for Tech Individual Events through Washington State Thespians where it may become selected to compete at nationals!

 

CTE, OcEd, & Elective credit available.  Open to all students, grades 9-12.  Pre-req: Theatre Tech Foundations.

Professional Theatre Exploration

This class is offered to advanced students in both Theatre Tech and Performance.  Students learn the skills required to become theatre professionals including auditions, networking, resume skills, advanced training, theatre management, marketing, and adminstration. Completing an Individual Project is also requirement for this course.

 

CTE, OcEd, & Elective credit available.  Open to  students, grades 10-12.  Pre-req: Theatre Tech Foundations, Costume Design & Construction, or Theatre 2.
